Job Description

YourTV, Cogeco’s community TV station in Sarnia, is looking to hire a producer with extensive reporting, anchoring and production experience. The primary role will be to produce and host our daily news/information show "Sarnia Lambton Today" from our Sarnia studio - including shooting, editing and reporting. The successful candidate will also be responsible for producing other community-based shows either in our studio or from remote locations, event hosting, community relations and volunteer training.

Key RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sourcing stories, scheduling interviews, writing, interviewing, shooting and editing within tight deadlines.

  • Hosting of Sarnia Lambton Today, including editorial planning and coordination, lineup construction, researching, writing and interviewing guests.

  • Production of a wide variety of shows and interstitial content for our station, including studio, ENG, EFP and potentially mobile productions. Formats range from studio or Zoom-based talk shows to cooking shows, live News, sports productions, election debates, parades and station ID's, promos and PSA's.

  • Coordinating delivery or live presentation of programs with our Master Control.

  • Provide training, coordination and mentorship of volunteers and students who assist with productions.

  • Community Relations, which includes participating in events on behalf of the company and acting as a company/brand ambassador in the community. This may include Emceeing or hosting community events.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with a diverse and expanding group of community partners.

  • Social Media: In addition to adhering to Cogeco social media policies, the incumbent is required to represent YourTV on all local YourTV social media platforms, promoting programs and community events. Engages with community members and stakeholders to further expand our YourTV presence and brand by posting videos, promotional and community content. Posts content and administers the YourTV website locally.

  • Vehicles: Completes safety checks, circle checks and reports any deficiencies immediately. Arranges for regular maintenance of assigned vehicles. Restocks supplies and maintains the overall appearance of the vehicle, inside and out.

  • Branding and Promotion: Ensures consistent application of Company image, logo and identification as per the Company standards. Identifies opportunities for Branding and company promotions within the community. Seeks opportunities to leverage company and department profile through internal and external partnerships, sponsorships and production activities. Produces on-air promos for all programs produced.

  • Administration: Maintains accurate records and statistics for department reports and planning. May administer the Broadview traffic software system. May administer the public service announcement system. Attends and participates in production meetings.


Job Requirements
ACADEMIC TRAINING

College Diploma or combination of equivalent education and experience

Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate in television production or related experience is required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years of experience working in an on-air capacity in TV or Radio, preferably in a news environment.

Experience producing TV programs in the field or from a control room environment.

Candidates with journalism experience in the newspaper industry, including producing video content, would be considered.

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Working on-air as a reporter and anchor

Strong technical and creative skills as a cameraperson and editor

Excellent control room production skills

Working knowledge of lighting, audio, music and set/stage design are all assets.

Experience building formats and rundowns and script writing are also considered assets.

Experience using social media as a promotional tool and working on/posting webcontent.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Strong computer skills (both Mac and PC)

Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet conflicting deadlines

Calm under pressure and able to mentor and teach production skills to volunteer crews.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

University degree or diploma in TV or Film production, communications, journalism or a production-related field.

-Successful candidate must live, or be willing to relocate to within 50km of Sarnia. This position is an in-person position, reporting to the Sarnia studio location.
