Salary Range: $123,100.01 to $173,500.11 per annum

Key Outcomes:

  • Enhanced Trustee, Member and Employer Experience: Lead the development and execution of communication strategies that create engaging and seamless experiences across all channels, increasing client satisfaction.
  • Strategic Relationships: Establish and nurture exceptional relationships with the plan boards, ensuring a clear understanding of their needs and expectations.
  • Digital Transformation: Drive the implementation of a multi-year digital strategy, reducing reliance on print products and maximizing the member and employer experience through innovative digital channels.
  • Effective Risk Management: Support reputational risk management for the corporation and plan boards through strategic communications advice and media liaison activities.
  • Leadership and Empowerment: Provide strong, visible leadership to a motivated communications team, empowering employees to innovate and enhance organizational performance.

Hybrid Work Model

This position is located in our Victoria, BC office. You will have the opportunity to work part of the time on-campus and part of the time off-campus. Guidelines and requirements for in-office presence are determined by operational need and vary according to the unique needs of each business area.

 
Job Requirements
Responsibilities
Strategic Communications:

Foster relationships with plan boards and senior staff.
Provide strategic communications advice and support.
Lead the development of communication strategies.
Oversee media monitoring and act as media liaison.
Network with industry peers and interest groups.
Digital Vision and Roadmap:

Maintain and implement a multi-year digital strategy.
Identify innovative uses of digital communications.
Provide input into UX program development.
Market the digital vision to senior management and plan boards.
Leadership:

Provide effective leadership to the communications team.
Empower employees to identify innovative communication approaches.
Ensure the branch structure supports the corporate strategic plan.
Manage the branch operating budget.
Qualifications
Education: A post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, or marketing. An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.
International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) certification/accreditation is preferred.
Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in the communications, marketing or public relations field. Experience in a union environment is preferred.
Relationship Management: Demonstrated experience identifying, managing and advising senior management on high-profile, sensitive issues.
Leadership: Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate leaders, coaching and leading multi-disciplinary senior management teams in the development and implementation of a diverse range of projects.
Communication: A clear and concise communicator with exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills, who excels in active listening and creates executive-level presentations to facilitate decision-making.
Program Delivery: Experience in the successful delivery of programs, especially those with a focus on digital communications.
Strategic Thinking: Managing strategy development, governance processes, stakeholder communication, business intelligence and budgets.
Collaboration: Experience working in an agile development environment with UX teams, designers and developers to iteratively create and improve digital communications is preferred.
Board Experience: Experience working with trustees/board of directors or elected officials is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven ability to train and educate staff, leadership and stakeholders on communication strategies and frameworks.
Demonstrated client relationship management skills.
Proven ability to apply communications expertise, including the application of technologies.
Strong writing skills and the ability to present information in creative, clear and simple formats.
A track record of developing creative and strategically sound solutions in a changing environment and demonstrating excellent judgment.
Recognized ability to monitor, analyze and respond to media issues.
Ability to manage a branch including strategic and business planning, and managing operations, staff and budgets.
Proven ability as a leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain an environment that enables staff to achieve business goals and to develop and build capacity for the future.
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate strategically with a variety of stakeholders and balance the needs and interests of these diverse groups.
