This position will write copy for fundraising proposals, case statements, grant applications and brochures. The Writer/Copywriter is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of all Advancement communications including preparing, proofreading and editing various documents with the purpose of securing donations to TRU.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write original and engaging copy for fundraising proposals, cases statements and campaign brochures. Collaborates with the Directors of Development and Campaign Director to develop written content.
Write grant applications to Foundations as required with input from the Directors of Development. Assisting with the preparation of Government grant applications as required.
Responsible for preparing the Foundation annual report including photos, interviews and stories to inform donors about Foundation activities and fundraising success.
Engage in team brainstorming and creative planning sessions to conceive, sell and execute bold, persuasive messages for our fundraising campaigns
Assists with social media and updating web content.
Collaborates with departments to capture student testimonials for stories to be used on the web, in letters and in publications.
Writes the content for direct mail solicitations and annual and endowment letters for donors.
Proofreads, edits and offers feedback on written content to members of a diverse and innovative team.
Manage several projects simultaneously and deliver to tight deadlines.
Liaise with TRU Marketing and Communications to coordinate writing and production of materials.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
3 years related experience as a writer and editor, including:
Experience with investigating and writing news stories, editing and writing promotional copy
Experience updating information for the web and social media
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
Detail and deadline oriented, with ability to work both independently and as a team player
Advanced writing, editing and proofing skills.
Ability to work within a content management system and an understanding of HTML.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Demonstrated advanced computer literacy skills in MS Office or comparable software
Proven ability to collaborate, problem solve and effectively develop relationships
Sitting at desk and computer for long periods of time; general office conditions
Ability to lift weights up to 5 kg

The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
CUPE Grade 07 $26.25
This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
