Job Description
The mission of Media Production Services (MPS) is to embrace creativity, drive innovation and achieve excellence in print and digital media for the benefit of our customers, partners and McMaster University.

Media Production Services (MPS) is looking for a Web Administrator, responsible for building content strategies, user interface and backend web architecture for client projects. The focus of this position includes establishing project goals, target audiences and deliverables. Translating web designs into front-end user interfaces with integration into back end content management systems. Development of all server-side logic, web architecture, database definition and maintenance, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. You will also be required to build mobile web applications to stand alone or complement existing systems.
This position will also provide technical support of existing internal systems and new applications development as necessary.
Job Requirements

3 year Community College diploma in Information Technology or related field.
Requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Purpose and Key Functions:

WordPress custom theme development, from planning to deployment and support
Assist in development of MPS starter WordPress theme, and build bespoke child themes on top of it to meet client's unique requirements
Write accessible code
Write reusable, "DRY" code as much as possible
Use version control
Comfortable with the command line
Experience with build processes (Gulp, Webpack) an asset
Knowledge of React and/or Gutenberg block development an asset
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, modern JavaScript (ES6+), PHP, with knowledge of preprocessors (Sass, Blade) an asset
Experience with Bootstrap 4 an asset
Client training and support
Site planning, in consultation with the client
Strong communication and collaboration skills

Additional Duties:

Designs websites, web pages, navigation, layout, and templates for websites.
Creates and edits graphical images and photography for websites.
Uses programming languages to design and code web forms and applications.
Develops databases for websites to house information and allow end users to access and update data.
Creates test patterns to evaluate web design in multiple browsers and operating systems.
Tests web applications for expected outcomes and creates test scenarios that cover all possible permutations.
Evaluates and selects appropriate and secure login processes for applications and web content.
Writes technical specifications, policies, and help documents for Clients.
Analyzes and administers web space usage and system performance on the web server.
Meets with clients to understand their goals and requirements in order to translate them into websites
Design, program logic, and database design.
Analyzes business requirements and provides web application solutions to those requirements.
Analyzes software for server and web development to determine which best meets the requirements of the Faculty and departments.
Reviews and updates security procedures and software to ensure websites are protected from tampering.
Exchanges technical information with internal and external colleagues.
Delivers presentations to senior administration.
Trains clients to make changes and maintain websites.
Provides advice regarding website structure, guidelines, and development.
Develops recommendations for Clients’ hardware and software purchases.
Remains current with frequent changes to software and multi-media mediums.
Occasionally assists with special event co-ordination requiring moving of light furniture and display items.
