Job Purpose



To undertake the development, planning and execution of all aspects of the market research process supporting the Bank’s global business.



The Senior Manager, Market Research (Global Brand & Customer Insights) will be responsible for undertaking the development, planning, and execution of all aspects of the market research process across Scotiabank’s Canadian and International customer base, including, but not limited to, Retail, Small Business, Wealth Management, various product lines, Finance, and the Bank’s delivery channels.



Accountabilities



1. Market Research Development & Execution

Responsible for the development and execution of all aspects of the market research process for various internal client groups across Scotiabank, both domestically and Internationally. This includes:

Working with Clients and internal teams to understand purpose/research needs.
Designing research and developing proposals, including decisions on methodology, target, geographic quotas, timing, etc.
Identifying and managing relationships with high-quality research fielding and/or full-service partners.
Translate market research strategies into detailed data specifications required for research analysis
Prepare and communicate detailed project workback schedules and task accountabilities
Coordinate, analyze, and present market research data for strategic insights and recommendations
Prepare presentations and summaries of market research findings


2. Relationship Management

Provide relationship management support for various lines of business across the Bank and within the CMO Office by:

Establishing a cohesive network of relationships with vendor partners, marketing partners and other key senior leaders across the organization in order to enhance consumer/target insights, various analyses, etc
To provide direction in the use of the most effective and innovative market research analytical techniques in order to identify emerging consumer needs and behavior trends, and define/refine key segment targets
Providing support during strategy, ideation, and execution to all stakeholders


3. Best Practice Centre

Maintain knowledge of best practice in Market Research management and strategic initiatives by:

Aiding in the communication and dissemination of research and analytics findings, highlighting trends in consumer attitude and behavior throughout the Bank;
Researching industry best practices in Market Research activities & execution, and linking strategy to results;
Creating and maintaining a network of strategy professionals to share learning, including creation of local user groups.

The incumbent acts as the expert on market research activities, and must provide unbiased, customer-focused advice, while at the same time ensuring that their activities do not impede customer acquisition/retention, business line growth and profitability activities.

To be successful in the position, the incumbent requires the following technical and behavioral competencies:

Advanced level of experience in market research (8+ years), preferably on the vendor side
Expert knowledge of SPSS, Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
Sound working knowledge of multi-variant statistical techniques
Thorough understanding of the end-to-end process of a quantitative and qualitative market research
Superb written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to translate and communicate business requirements into technical research project specifications
Sound knowledge of emerging market research techniques
Working knowledge of key global trends in the financial services industry and the impact of these on the use of market research
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Able to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
Fundamental knowledge of the Bank’s business objectives, strategies, and internal operating environment
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work within cross-functional teams
Ability to speak Spanish is not required but would be considered an asset


Educational Requirements:

Advanced university degree (Master’s) in marketing, economics, statistics or computer science is preferred.
