Job Description

As a member of the Global Communications and Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders, devise specific communications materials and campaigns, engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers, and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. 

In this role, you'll be a great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, scripts, and more. You will collaborate with executives from across the organization, bringing a deep understanding of the policies and technologies impacting the digital advertising industry today.

It's our job to help inform and educate users, media, and opinion leaders about the benefits of Google products, our distinctive company culture/values, and our approach to the important public policy issues of the day. As the Communications Manager, you will combine creativity with the organizational skills to manage numerous different projects to tight deadlines simultaneously. Things happen quickly at Google and to get stuff done here you'll need to be an effective team player who can take initiative and work cross-functionally and isn't afraid to try new ways of solving a challenge.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you'll you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, comms, marketing, product and beyond.


  • Devise press strategies, clear messaging, and communications guidance related to our ads offerings for large customers and small/medium-sized businesses.
  • Manage external communications in Canada in relation to ads and policy enforcement across Google platforms.
  • Be a media spokesperson for Google ads, communicating the platform's policies, tools, and broader key messages to the press.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver compelling and impactful events for our clients and business stakeholders, and coach company spokespeople for press engagements.
  • Help manage a Public Relations (PR) agency to help support day-to-day activities, special projects, and events.
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
7 years of experience in communications or equivalent industry.

Preferred qualifications:

Corporate or policy communications experience
Experience working with PR agencies, marketers, digital publishers, or complex organizations with multiple product lines and diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of the online advertising industry and understanding of the small/medium business landscape in Canada
Understanding of the Canadian public policy and regulatory environment, and the impacts on technology companies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to shape business priorities into a narrative.
Ability to speak and/or write in French.
