You love the craft of writing and feel privileged to tell people’s stories. Your true love is the written word, but you are keen to try radio and TV. You are tapped into communities in Calgary and want to give them a voice. You doggedly pursue stories, have a track record of original journalism and feel comfortable working on your own. We prioritize original journalism, including giving additional time and training opportunities to tell those stories on digital, radio, TV and video. But you also know that news is collaborative and want to work as part of a team. You bring a distinctive life experience, perspective or expertise to the team that will enrich the newsroom and our stories. You have a deep understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives, opinions and experiences.
Please note this is a full-time temporary position assigned to weekends and evenings until September 2023. The regular work schedule is: 2:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, and 12:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday-Sunday.
What you'll do:
· Pitch and produce original stories that can work as text, radio and video treatments.
· Respond quickly to breaking news.
· Package stories with the best photos and most engaging video clips, plus links and other media.
· Write stories based on gathered interviews or live-streamed events.
· Write compelling headlines that work on the website and mobile devices.
· Take photos with a DSLR.
· Edit stories and curate the online news lineup.
· Post stories on social media accounts.
