Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is seeking applications for the position of
Communications Associate
Full-Time Contract to May 31, 2018

About Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center:
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a human rights organization dedicated to Holocaust studies, advocacy and education. Our programs are designed to counter racism and antisemitism, to foster an appreciation for Canadian democratic values, and to help make the world a better place.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating materials that widen and deepen the base of support for Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies. This includes investigative research, writing and editing materials, web pages, digital media, news releases, newsletters, and other documents as required.

• Proactively communicate with the media;
• Monitor and communicate FSWCs presence in traditional and online media;
• Field and direct media requests;
• Coordinate some content, write and edit print newsletter;
• Manage E-bulletin, manage and develop media lists;
• Seek out opportunities for FSWC to communicate its message;
• Support media relations, including writing and distribution of press releases;
• Develop and maintain media contacts;
• Help maintain website in coordination with office staff;
• Writing and production of communications/marketing and media materials. Liaise with designer and coordinate production of materials;
• Assist with community building and public visibility of special events;
• Provide on-going project management assistance when required
Job Requirements
• College or University graduate;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
• 1-2 years’ experience in successful communications role;
• French (written and verbal) would be an asset
• Demonstrated editing, and proof reading skills;
• Strong administrative and organizational skills;
• Knowledge of the Jewish community and commitment to the work of FSWC;
• Experience in communications and with local media;
• Experience with marketing and promotion;
• Self-motivated, and able to work independently and with a team of staff and volunteers;
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects;
• Demonstrated research, analytical, problem solving and computer skills;
• Experience in some or all the following: Microsoft Office, Quark Xpress and Design software, IMovie, Photoshop, database, digital photography, video editing
